Walker River is fishing fair to good for trout, with the best action coming during the cooler morning and evening hours. Trout are holding in deeper pools, slower runs, undercut banks, and areas where current breaks create feeding opportunities.Anglers are catching trout using small spinners, spoons, and soft plastics. Silver, gold, and copper spinners are working well when fished through deeper pools and along current seams. Panther Martin, Mepps, Rooster Tail style lures, and small spoons are good choices with a slow retrieve.Bait anglers are using nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, and PowerBait in areas where bait fishing is allowed. A small piece of nightcrawler drifted naturally through deeper pools has been effective. PowerBait in rainbow, chartreuse, orange, and garlic scents can also produce when fish are holding near slower water.Fly anglers are having success with nymph patterns including Hares Ear, Pheasant Tail, Prince Nymphs, Copper Johns, and small stonefly patterns. Woolly Buggers and small streamer patterns can be effective when worked through deeper pools and along shaded banks.Smallmouth bass and other warm-water species may also provide some action in slower sections, with anglers using small jigs, soft plastics, and small crankbaits around structure and deeper water. The best approach is to cover different types of water throughout the day. Start with faster-moving water and shallow runs in the morning, then focus on deeper pools, shaded areas, and slower current as the day warms. A slow presentation has been more productive than a fast retrieve.
