The Walker River is providing fair to good trout fishing depending on flow conditions, with the East and West Walker both producing action for rainbow and brown trout. Early morning and late evening remain the most productive times, especially with warming daytime temperatures.Trout are holding in 2 to 4 feet of water in riffles, seams, and pocket water during low-light periods. As the day progresses, fish generally move into 4 to 8 feet of water in deeper runs, pools, and shaded undercut banks where they can hold out of stronger current.Bait anglers are having success with nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, and small shrimp drifted naturally through seams and deeper pools. The most productive approach is letting bait move naturally with the current along transition lines between fast and slow water.Spin anglers are finding consistent action with small spinners like Panther Martins and Rooster Tails, along with Kastmasters in silver, gold, and black patterns. A slow retrieve through deeper pools and along current edges is producing the best hookups.Fly anglers are doing well with nymph rigs using Pheasant Tail nymphs, Hares Ear, Prince Nymphs, and small stonefly patterns. Indicator fishing along seams, pocket water, and drop-offs in 3 to 6 feet of water is most effective. In the evenings, there may be some surface activity with small caddis and mayfly patterns.Overall, anglers should focus on 2 to 4 feet of water during prime feeding windows and 4 to 8 feet during the middle of the day. The best fishing is found in riffle-to-pool transitions, current seams, pocket water, and shaded structure where trout can conserve energy while feeding.
