Fishing at Lake Almanor is currently good, with steady action for rainbow trout and some brown trout, along with occasional salmon depending on where youre fishing. Fish are widely spread out and are feeding heavily on pond smelt, which keeps them active throughout the water column. You can find fish near the surface early and late in the day, while mid-day fish often slide down into 2035 feet of water around points, drop-offs, and the river channel edges.For trolling, small to mid-sized spoons like Kastmasters, Needlefish, and Little Cleos in chrome, gold, or baitfish-style patterns are effective when trolled slowly to moderately. Trolling flies, hoochies, and smelt-imitating plastics also produce well when you adjust depth until you locate active fish.For bait fishing, PowerBait in bright colors such as chartreuse, orange, or rainbow works well when fished near the bottom or just above structure.
