The Carson River offers anglers some excellent opportunities to target trout throughout the Northern Nevada area. As temperatures cool down in November, trout can be found holding in deeper pools, slower-moving runs, and areas where faster currents transition into calmer water. Focus on fishing during the warmer parts of the day when trout may become more active.Where to Fish and Recommended DepthsLook for trout in deeper pools and slower-moving sections of the river, particularly near bends, undercut banks, rocks, and deeper pockets. Start fishing in approximately 2 to 6 feet of water, focusing on deeper holes and current breaks. In faster-moving sections, trout will often hold close to the bottom to conserve energy while waiting for food to drift by.Bait and Lure RecommendationsNightcrawlers are a great starting option for Carson River trout. Small pieces of nightcrawler drifted naturally through deeper runs can be effective. Small spinners, Rooster Tails, Panther Martin lures, and small spoons are also worth trying. As of late February 2025, fishing conditions on the Carson River have been challenging. The river has settled into typical winter flow levels, leading to slower fishing activity. Anglers have found some success using small spinners, particularly around the Broken Dam area, targeting the remaining stocked trout.
