Davis Lake is providing good trout fishing, with rainbow trout making up the majority of the catch and the occasional brown trout being caught by anglers targeting deeper structure. Early morning and late evening continue to offer the most consistent action.Trout are commonly holding in 5 to 12 feet of water during low-light periods and moving into 12 to 25 feet of water as the day progresses. Anglers fishing from boats are finding the best success along weed lines, drop-offs, and deeper channels.Bait anglers are doing well with chartreuse PowerBait, garlic PowerBait, inflated nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs fished near the bottom. Shore anglers should focus on points, coves, and areas adjacent to deeper water.Trolling anglers are having success with Needlefish, Kastmasters, Wedding Rings tipped with nightcrawler, and small spoons in silver, gold, and rainbow trout patterns. Running presentations 10 to 20 feet deep during the morning and 15 to 25 feet deep during the middle of the day is producing the most fish.Fly anglers are finding success with Woolly Buggers, damsel nymphs, chironomids, and leech patterns. Focus on fishing weed edges and drop-offs in 6 to 15 feet of water during the morning and deeper structure later in the day.Overall, anglers should concentrate on depths of 5 to 12 feet during the morning hours and 12 to 25 feet during the middle of the day. The best fishing is occurring near weed beds, submerged structure, drop-offs, and deeper channels, especially during the first few hours after sunrise and the final hours before sunset.
