Verdi Mill Pond is providing fair to good fishing opportunities, with anglers targeting rainbow trout, bass, and panfish. The best fishing has been during the cooler morning hours and again in the evening when fish are more active. As daytime temperatures rise, trout are moving into deeper water and shaded areas, while bass and panfish are becoming more aggressive around structure and vegetation.Rainbow trout are being caught using PowerBait in rainbow, chartreuse, garlic, and orange colors, along with salmon eggs and nightcrawlers fished near deeper areas of the pond. Anglers are also having success casting small lures including Panther Martins, Rooster Tails, Kastmasters, and Thomas Buoyant spoons. Smaller sizes with slower retrieves have been the most productive, especially around the shoreline and near drop-offs.Fly anglers are finding success with small Woolly Buggers, Hares Ear nymphs, Pheasant Tail nymphs, Zebra Midges, and Chironomid patterns. Fishing under an indicator near weed edges or slowly stripping leech patterns through deeper water has been effective for trout.Bass fishing has been improving as water temperatures warm. Anglers targeting bass are finding success around submerged vegetation, rocky edges, and areas with cover. Small plastic worms, Ned rigs, tube jigs, small swimbaits, and creature baits in green pumpkin, watermelon, and natural colors have been producing. Slow presentations along the bottom with pauses are working best.Bluegill and other panfish are active and providing good action for anglers using small pieces of nightcrawler, mealworms, small jigs, and trout magnets under a bobber. These fish are often found near vegetation, shallow structure, and protected shoreline areas. The best overall approach at Verdi Mill Pond has been to target trout early with bait or small lures, then switch to bass and panfish techniques as the day warms. Anglers who adjust their species target and presentation throughout the day are finding the most consistent success. The most productive areas have been shaded shorelines, weed edges, deeper pockets, and areas with visible structure.
