Frenchman Lake is providing good fishing for rainbow trout, with the best action taking place during the early morning and again during the last few hours before sunset. Trout are actively feeding along rocky shorelines, submerged points, and the edges of weed beds before moving into deeper water as the day warms. Anglers fishing from both shore and boats are finding consistent success by adjusting their depth throughout the day.Shore anglers are having the best luck using chartreuse, rainbow, and garlic PowerBait, inflated nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs fished just off the bottom. Anglers casting lures are catching fish on silver and gold Kastmasters, Thomas Buoyant spoons, Panther Martins, and Rooster Tails with a slow, steady retrieve. Early morning continues to be the most productive time for casting hardware from shore.Boat anglers are doing well trolling Needlefish, Wedding Ring spinners tipped with nightcrawler, Speedy Shiners, and small spoons. Fishing in 10 to 20 feet of water during the morning and gradually moving deeper as the sun rises has been producing the most consistent results.Fly anglers are finding success with olive and black Woolly Buggers, balanced leeches, chironomids, blood midge patterns, damsel nymphs, and Callibaetis nymphs. Fishing these patterns under an indicator or on an intermediate sinking line around weed beds and drop-offs has been especially productive. Most rainbow trout are ranging from 14 to 20 inches, with larger holdover fish showing up regularly. Anglers covering water, varying their depth, and slowing their presentations during the warmer parts of the day are seeing the best success.
