Topaz Lake is a good mixed-fishing destination, with trout being the main target for many anglers and bass providing another option when the water is warmer. The best trout fishing is generally during the cooler parts of the day, particularly early morning and evening. As the day warms, trout can move deeper or hold around structure and drop-offs.For shore anglers targeting trout, PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs are good starting choices. Fish PowerBait or a piece of nightcrawler on the bottom, and adjust the leader length so the bait is sitting above the bottom. If you're fishing an area with weeds or uneven bottom, an inflated nightcrawler can help keep the bait in the fish's feeding zone.Small spoons are a good way to cover water. Kastmasters, Thomas Buoyants, Needlefish, and similar trout spoons are worth trying. Start with silver or gold and vary the retrieve speed.
