Cowlitz: Is open for Hatchery Steelhead, Sea run Cutthroat and Coho. Summer Steelhead and Sea run Cutthroat are the current best options. Soon Coho will start to show up. Gear: Steelhead Plunking with a Spin n glow with a coon shrimp, tuna or eggs can be effective as well as Bobber fishing with beads, eggs and jigs. Spinners and spoons can also be effective. For sea run Cutthroat fly fishing , small spoons and spinners will be productive. they have been recycling Steelhead and Curtthroat from Blue Creek Hatchery back to the I -5 boat ramp. Fishing in the Cowlitz for Coho Salmon is very good and should remain good for the next few weeks. Fishing will be best above the Toutle after heavy rains. Daily limit 6, up to 2 adults may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and hatchery coho. Use Twitching jigs, spinners and small plugs for the Silvers.
