Blue Creek: Upper Cowlitz is open for Hatchery Trout, Steelhead and Coho. The Steelhead fishing is good. Sea run Cutthroat are starting to show up. The lower river should start to get Coho the end of the month. Fall chinook is closed on the Cowlitz. Tacoma Power employees recovered 274 Summer-run Steelhead, 60 Spring Chinook adults, 14 Spring Chinook jacks, 181 Spring Chinook mini jacks, two Fall Chinook adults, and ten Cutthroat trout over five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator. As of Friday, July 31, 2026, Tacoma Power has recycled 1,349 Summer-run Steelhead and five Spring Chinook adults this season to the I-5 boat launch in Toledo. River flow below Mayfield Dam is 2,710 cubic feet per second on Monday, August 3, 2026. Water visibility is 11 feet and water temperature is 54.3 (F). River flows could change at any time so boaters and anglers should remain alert for this possibility Time to get ready for fall Coho! Recommended techniques: Divers and bait or bobber fishing with shrimp or eggs or jigs, also spinners, plugs, spoons can be effective. Come into Sportsman's for additional information.

Fishing is very good on this stretch of the Cowlitz River. Late run Coho, are Biting on Spinners and Twitching jigs. Sea run Cutthroat are taking fly's and small spoons and spinners. Winter Steelhead should be showing up soon! Bobber and jigs, eggs and beads should all be good techniques. We have all the gear in stock, gear up while supplies are good! Limit Adults:Two salmon, 3 adult Steelhead or Cutthroat.
