As of mid-January 2026, the Alsea River in Oregon is offering improving opportunities for anglers targeting winter steelhead. Fish are reaching the traps at the Alsea Hatchery, which confirms that steelhead are actively entering and moving through the river system.Recent rainfall in the region has raised river flows, a condition that typically improves winter steelhead movement and catch rates. These higher flows help push fish upriver and often trigger short windows of productive fishing, particularly shortly after storms.
