Fishing on the Uncompahgre River below Ridgway Reservoir is currently fair to good, with stable flows around 110150 CFS, providing excellent conditions for wading and technical presentations. The water is clear and trout are active, but they can be selective and easily spooked, so anglers should use a stealthy approach, light tippet, small flies, and careful presentations. The most consistent fishing has been from mid-morning through late afternoon.Productive patterns include JuJu Baetis, Zebra Midges, Demon Midges and Griffiths Gnats (#1824). For nymphing, try Rainbow Perdigons, small Pheasant Tails (#1822), and Cased Caddis (#1418). Small black leeches can also be effective. Anglers fishing the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk section within Ridgway State Park should remember that this section is catch-and-release only with artificial flies and lures.
