As of late March 2026, fishing at Blue Mesa Reservoir has transitioned to open water in many areas due to an unseasonably warm spring. While some high-mountain lakes remain frozen, Blue Mesa is seeing a significant influx of boaters and shore anglers taking advantage of 7080 degree daysRecommended Gear & TacticsLures/Bait: Use white/glow tube jigs, spoons (PK Flutter-fish, Kastmasters), tipped with wax worms, mealworms, or sucker meat.Timing: Early mornings are best, taking advantage of midge hatches. Access & Safety UpdatesConditions: Shorelines are soft/muddy; use caution.Ramps: Elk Creek and Iola ramps are open, but expect crowds.Ice: Remaining ice is unsafe, check with a spud bar.
