The report on the ice is good conditions thick, fishable ice, ice edges are solid throughout the reservoir, and trout catch rates are fair to good, you still want to use ice flies, jigging spoons, and white colored soft plastic jig ( such as tubes, paddle tails or minnows) Tipped with salad shrimp, trout dough bait, or night crawler are all producing fish. Head for spring fishing the best Lures would be Jake's Lures, bras with red or silver with red if you're going for Rainbow Trout, for cutthroat trout you typically want to use the white with red as well as Panther Martin's colors: yellow with red, Black with yellow, silver, and bras. But when still ice fishing going out on the ice with caution some spots could be thinner in some areas. ICE FISHING: Up on Strawberry Reservoir there are about 4 - 6 inches in some areas others are 7 to 10 inches. Areas of open water and/ orthin ice are still present, so exhibit caution. anglers fishing near Strawberry Bay Marina, Mud Creek, Chicken Creek, and the north end of Soldier Creek are reporting good to excellent trout catch rates using colored soft plastic jigs, (such as tubes, paddle tails, or minnows) colored: white, pink/ white with pink, yellow, chartreuse, lime green, clear or glowing clear. and any jig head hook colored: yellow, green, white, black, pink, or silver and at the tip of the hook tip with shrimp, nightcrawler, wax worms, mealworms, or spikes. The fish you are likely to catch while Ice Fishing is 1) Sterilized Rainbow Trout. 2) Cutthroat Trout. 3) Kokanee Salmon. 4) Crayfish. Kokanee Salmon: Kokanee fishing slows down throughout August as they prepare to spawn. Reminder: Anglers may NOT possess Kokanee salmon at any waterbody statewide from Sept. 10 through Nov. 30. Kokanee fishing will typically start to pick up a little after ice comes on in January. Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout: Cutthroat and Rainbow fishing starts to pick up as the water cools in mid-September through ice-on. This can be some of the fastest fishing of the year. Anglers can often pick up numerous small to medium-sized cutthroats by trolling a white or green 3 - 4" tube jig. Then tipping the jig with a small piece of worm on the hook. Also, a good way to go for big Cutthroat is hard plastic minnow imitations and topwater lures can also produce fishing closer to shore, particularly fished along or perpendicular to shorelines. larger cutthroat is often caught in the fall along the shoreline with these methods. trolling or casting frozen minnows in shallower water can be very effective for catching larger Cutthroat. Fly-fishing: Particularly from float tubes and kick coats, can be very successful in October-November for Cutthroat and rainbows. various fly patterns (typically olive or darker colors) and fly lines produce good catch rates in the fall. The trick is finding the right depth (typically targeting water less than 30 ft. deep). Trout dough baits and nightcrawlers fishing off the bottom, or below a bobber closer to the surface, Angler location is important. Again, focus on points and steeper shorelines.
