The warm waters during the summer months attract a variety of fish species. Yellowtail and tuna, in particular, are more abundant during this period. Anglers can also take advantage of the longer daylight hours. Early morning trips are often recommended for the best fishing conditions. Think Yellowtail, Halibut, Calico Bass, Corbina, Mud Marlin, and occasional White Seabass. You'll mostly fish the bays, since they're more protected from the weather, and fish flock to calmer waters. If you're coming to San Diego for a multi-day fishing adventure, you won't be disappointed. jus make sure you bring Crank Baits and Spinnerbaits Crank baits tend to work better near shallow grass beds, but Spinnerbaits can work in the deep water as well. This is especially true when using heavy, saltwater spinnerbaits.Saltwater Bay Fishing Tackle:*A 7-foot heavy action rod with a spinning reel or a baitcaster reel.*A 20-pound monofilament line.*A 50-pound test fluorocarbon leader.*Lures such as a white bucktail jig lure to a metal spoon or live bait.*Some 6/0 or 7/0 circle hooks.
