Sugar Creek is a clear running stream which travels in a generally northeast to southwest direction as it cuts across west-central Indiana. Sugar Creek, one of Indiana's most scenic rivers, flows right through the heart of Turkey Run State Park. The source lies in Tipton County and the entire river length to the Wabash confluence is approximately 90 miles. Of interest to the angler are smallmouth bass, rock bass, channel catfish and flathead catfish. Other gamefish of note are: long ear sunfish, bluegill crappie and largemouth bass. Rough fish are several species of suckers, carp and gar. Sugar Creek is a smallmouth bass fishery, with structure and food that smallmouth bass like. The best time to fish is mid-morning to late afternoon. Channel and flathead catfish are common in the creek, with flathead catfish being more abundant and larger below Crawfordsville. DNR surveys show that more than 3,000 anglers fish the stream May through September. The majority of these anglers have their sights set on a smallmouth bass exceeding the 20 inch minimum size limit. Walk and wade, float, or use a drift boat at higher flows. Some areas of the creek have health advisories due to contaminants. The creek is also popular for canoeing and tubing, especially during the late spring to early fall. Public access points are available at the Brush Creek canoe ramp upstream of the Narrows Covered Bridge and at the canoe ramp by Cox Ford Covered Bridge downstream
