The lake, formerly Mansfield Lake, is also referred to as Raccoon Lake. The 2,110 acre lake provides flood reduction downstream from the dam, primarily in the Big Raccoon Creek and Lower Wabash River watersheds. The lake has 216 square miles of drainage area, beginning in Boone County, Indiana. The lake has 16.4 miles of shoreline. The sport fish population in Raccoon Lake is comprised primarily of Bluegill, Sunfish, Bullhead and channel catfish, Yellow perch, Walleye, Muskellunge, Crappie, Sauger, Largemouth and smallmouth bass. Use live bait or lures that mimic local prey. Look for bigger bass in cold water using an underspin paired with a grub or a drop shot. Raccoon Lake has many amenities for fishing, including boat ramps, fishing piers, and shore fishing spots. There are also nearby camping facilities.
