Spring forecast ( March - May) The reservoir is ice free. Rainbow trout will begin patrolling the shorelines looking for food and a place to spawn and can provide great fishing throughout March and April. Many anglers fish with nymps, but streamers, balanced leeches and midge dries can also produce well. Spin anglers can catch rainbow with marabou jigs, spinners, spoons, and unscented plastics. Wipers also start to get active and typically seek out the warmest water in the shallows. For wipers, use lures and flies that imitate chubs and crayfush. As the spring progresses into May, trout feed actively on the surface early and late, while moving into deeper water during the day. Smallmouth bass will also get more active in later spring.

Trout fishing should start to improve with cooling water temperatures. Some trout can be caught trolling in deep water. Also look for hatches in the early morning and late evening. Smallmouth bass are active and can be caught on crayfish-imitating tackle. Wipers are most active at sunup or sundown and can be caught trolling or casting topwater lures.
