Fall can be a great time to fish Willard Bay Reservoir from shore or a boat. Walleye and Wiper: Both species will begin coming in shallower as the water cools. Try casting shad imitating lures (white crankbaits and spinner baits) perpendicular to shore. Be on the lookout for boils in September. If you see a boil cast a shad imitating lure into the boil and quickly retrieve it. Many wipers will hit the lure on the retrieve. Channel Catfish: Try fishing a worm on the bottom along sand or muck shorelines. Smallmouth Bass: Try fishing a jig tipped with worm under a bobber 5 to 10 feet off the dike. Artificial lures such s spinner baits, tube jigs, twist tail grubs, and crankbaits can be effective when cast perpendicular to shore.
