Rim Streams
Rating - Good
Friday, Jan 13 2023
Average water temperatures 36 degrees. This report will apply to all the streams in the Mogollon Rim area outside of Payson, including Canyon Creek, Christopher Creek, Haigler Creek, Tonto Creek, and Horton Creek. AZGF Stocking of Rainbow Trout unless otherwise indicated ( check AZGF stock report). Target the slower and deeper pools. Creeks are flowing high and muddy. Stocking has continued for the year. Small spinners, crickhoppers, or powerbait and night crawlers will work. Fly fisherman should try dry dropper rigs with natural colored bead head nymphs below. A stimulator dry with a bead head pheasant tail or hares ear is hard to beat on most of the streams. For bigger browns try Tonto or Canyon Creek. Be stealthy and hike far to find the bigger fish. The road status for each of the districts on the Coconino National Forest is updated as the information becomes available and is listed separately by district. If you need further information or have questions regarding any Forest Road, please call the appropriate District Ranger Station: Flagstaff Ranger Station: (928) 526-0866 Red Rock Ranger Station: (928) 282-4119 Mogollon Rim Ranger Station: (928) 477-2255
