Black bass: BYA Fishings Eric Enlow of Union reports that July was great for relatively deep bass with crankbaits and soft plastics, but in August the big schools of fish often break up and they get more scattered. Finesse-oriented soft plastics are usually the best way to catch them, and there can also be a topwater bite early and late. It can be a tough month to catch bass but there can also be some good days especially when current is being generated.Catfish: Captain William Attaway (803-924-0857) reports that through August numbers of mostly smaller fish will be caught free line drifting over deep water with small pieces of bait fished high in the water column, while all sizes can be caught anchoring cut bait on points and humps. This is a better month for catching lots of fish rather than big ones.
