Tight Lines anglers!! While the weather has been unseasonably cold, the fishing has been red hot. Striper and smallmouth bass continue the bite, while Muskies are surprisingly being caught in large numbers in the 10 to 20 pound range. The Staunton and James Rivers are the best spots to try, using burnt orange and purple/black colors. Smith Mountain Lake is seeing a number of fish in deeper waters, suspended in the 30 to 40 foot range. Catfish have continued to the bite in moderate to good times, especially on he overcast days. Try using chicken livers wrapped in chicken skin with a small sprinkling of garlic powder and fine ground coffee. Walleye, are also being caught in moderate numbers using pink/white and pink/gold combinations. Please use extreme caution and dress appropriately while on the water. Hypothermia can set in very quickly, resulting in a life threating situation.
