The cooler temps have rolled in, and with them comes a red-hot bite across lakes and rivers in the region! Smallmouth bass are on the move and feeding aggressively in our rivers both upstream and downstream of Lynchburg are producing great action. If you're into fast-paced river fishing, nows the time to get after it! Over at Smith Mountain Lake, both largemouth bass and stripers are schooling up and busting bait on the surface. Topwater baits are the name of the game expect explosive strikes, especially during the early mornings and late evenings! In a pleasant surprise, the walleye bite has turned on strong in the Staunton River, particularly between Leesville Dam and Altavista. Jigging and live bait tactics are working wonders. Flathead and channel catfish are showing up in good numbers upstream from Lynchburg on the James and Maury River perfect for those looking for a big pull. And for the esox enthusiasts musky are getting active, especially in the upper stretches of both the James and Staunton Rivers. Big follows and better hookups are happening! Get out there and enjoy the fall fishing fireworks its shaping up to be one of the best bites of the year!
