06/28/2026 latest fish counts from the local charter boats still looks like the rockfish bite is target for the 1/2 day boats. Lots of sculpin, whitefish, seabass and the occasional sheepshead are dominating the totals so far this season. 3/4 day boats are starting to get into the yellowtail and some of the larger class seabass working the squidbeds around the islands. The Calico and Sandbass bite is starting to pickup especially around the kelps and some of the natural and artificial reefs. Boaters are also starting to get some of the better class barracuda starting to follow and anchovy bait balls, lots of catch and release to get the legal ones though.Full day trips and overnights have been far more successful in hunting for the larger class yellowtail and even some bluefin down to the south. It still may be a bit early for the OC area to get a consistent pelagic bite going but it looks like it's on its way. Shore anglers, specifically shark anglers make sure you look at the new rules for White Shark protections, specifically the gear rules that have changed. The shore bite has been pretty consistent. Surf perch, halibut and the occasional sandbass have been the most consistent.As the water temps continue to increase the fishing is going to get better and better. Good time to work the bugs out of your gear and setups so when the time comes your ready for those larger class fish to move up from the south..Good luck and tight lines!!
