Falling Springs is a well known spring creek in Franklin county PA. The spring has a good stretch of fly fishing only water that supports a great population of wild rainbow trout and brown trout, some of which grow in excess on 20 inches! This stretch is tough but rewarding when fished properly. Below the fly fishing section is the delayed harvest section that gets stocked yearly, this stretch is much more forgiving to anglers. The whole stream fishes great year round due to the cold water influenced by the springs that flow into it. The stream has many scuds and cress bugs so matching those patterns will bring you success any time of year. Midges are also a great way to get fish to the net. Hatches aren't what they used to be, however you can find black stonefly's early in the year, as well as blue winged olives sporadically. The best hatch comes in the summer months when you can find tricos coming off in the mornings. Long leaders and light tippet is a must for these spooky trout.
