TRASK RIVER: Steelhead, Chinook, Cutthroat. Flow is running 6.92' The Spring Chinook should be present and summer steelhead should be building. Most coastal rivers are near summer low levels. Trout anglers will want to head to upper tributaries or headwaters in search of cooler water, or switch their attention to warm water species. For anglers planning to fish the Trask River at the popular "Hatchery Hole", be advised the hatchery grounds are currently closed to the public. The hatchery grounds closure does not affect fishing on the river itself, only access through the hatchery grounds. During the hatchery grounds closure, all vehicle and angler access is prohibited until further notice to ensure public safety while the construction is in progress.Parking is available to anglers on Chance Rd. near the entrance to the hatchery, and anglers can continue to access the river on the trail from the parking area but from there must remain on the riverbank without accessing the main hatchery grounds.Coastal Trout season is here!!! Trout in streams: Open May 22 - Oct 31. Trout size limit: Shorter than 16 inches, 8 inch minimum length. Rainbow trout over 16 inches are considered steelhead in streams. Bag limit: 2 per day, 3 daily limits in possession. Angling restricted to artificial flies and lures in streams above tidewater, May 22 - Aug 31. See Exceptions where use of bait is allowed.
