Fishing is hot. Anglers are catching 12- to 23-inch cutthroat trout, and 14- to 18-inch rainbow trout. Boat and shore anglers are seeing high cutthroat trout catch rates. If you're fishing for trout from a boat, try trolling at 1.5- to 1.8-mph running down-riggers at a depth 12- to 25-feet using a 4- or 5-inch dodger or flasher and pink, chartreuse or orange squids on a 20- to 30-inch leader, tipping the squids with chartreuse or pink Berkley Gulp Maggots. We recommend anglers scent your squids with an attractant such as Atlas Mikes Lunker Lotion or Pro Cure Super Gel. Also, try targeting these depths previously mentioned using white or green Luhr-Jensen Krocodile or Needlefish spoons, Acme Kastmaster spoons, Williams Wabler spoons, Mepps Syclops spoons, Rapala Original Floating Mirrow or Jointed swimbaits, or Rebel Minnow or Jointed Floater Minnow . Also, try vertical jigging using those same cutthroat spoons previously mentioned, or 3.5- to 4-inch white/glitter, crayfish, or pumpkin colored tube jigs tipped with nightcrawler. If you're targeting trout from shore, try using Berkley Bad Shad crankbaits, Rapala Shad Rap crankbaits, Storm Wiggle Wart crankbait, 1/4- to 1/2-ounce rainbow trout, chrome neon green, or chrome fluorescent orange Acme Kastmasters, or 1/2- to 3/8-ounce gold shiner, white, firetiger Blue Fox Foxtail Super Vibrax Spinners, or those lures listed for trolling. Also, try using garlic/chartreuse, fluorescent orange, or sherbert trout dough bait, 3.5- to 4-inch white/glitter, crayfish, or pumpkin colored tube jigs tipped with nightcrawler, or night crawler with an orange, pink or chartreuse marshmallow fished 36- to 48-inches below a bobber, fished behind a sinking bubble float or 18- to 30-inches off the bottom using a sinker rig. *Utah law protects salmon populations during the fall. If you catch a kokanee salmon anywhere in Utah from Sept. 10 to Nov. 30, 2019 you must release it.
