The winter-run steelhead have started to arrive, with most of them bright and fresh. Anglers report catching them on a variety of presentations, such as spinners, spawn, live bait, beads, and plugs. So far this fall, 2001 steelhead have gone through the fish ladder in South Bend, including 360 in the first two weeks of November. Monitor the river temp at the closest USGS gauge in Niles, MI10/28/2022St. Joseph River (above Twin Branch Dam)Think fall - with water temps rapidly falling, pike and bass are putting on the feedbag. Vegetation and current breaks are prime spots to find fish. Spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, squarebill cranks, and chatterbaits are all good options for multi-species action
