Provo River

Rating - Good

Friday, Oct 15 2021
Stream flows are at 407 CFS below the Deer Creek Reservoir dam. Anglers are having success fishing pockets closer to the banks, and edges of slower water (pools and runs) out of the main current. Hatches on the Lower Provo are transitioning to that of the Middle - Tiny Blue-Winged Olive mayflies (size 20-26) and October Caddis (size 14-18) in late afternoons and evenings. Fishing terrestrial patterns such as hoppers and ants closer to the bank can be effective in the afternoons, and swinging soft-hackle or dead drifting streamers in the early mornings and late evenings can also be effective. Nymphing San Juan Worms or Flossy Worms (size 12-14), Squirmy Wormy or Squirminator jigs (size 12-14), or sowbugs (size 16-18) can also be effective if nothing's hatching. This stretch of the Lower Provo River receives a lot of angler use. Please be mindful of other anglers, share the resource and practice good stream etiquette.
