NESTUCCA RIVER, LITTLE NESTUCCA RIVER, AND THREE RIVERS: steelhead, Chinook, cutthroat trout Spring Chinook are starting to show up on the Nestucca with a few fish being caught in the bay and the lower Nestucca River, although fishing has slowed the past week. We are expecting a low to moderate run this year. Nestucca bay and the mainstem below the confluence with Three Rivers are still the best bet, although there a probably a few fish starting to move upstream. ATTENTION ANGLERS: ODFW could use your help! Some of the spring Chinook are marked with a right ventral fin clip in addition to the usual adipose clip. If you catch a Chinook with a right ventral clip (the ventral fins are located low on the fish and just over half way back on the body), and others are marked with either a right or left maxillary clip (the maxillary is the bony structure at the back of the upper jaw). If you see one of these marks please note the date, location, type of mark and report it to the North Coast Watershed District at 503-842-2741 Ext 237. Thank you! The summer steelhead run is also starting up on the Nestucca, with a few fish being caught, but fishing seems to have slowed a little. From First Bridge to Cloverdale will probably be the best bet for them early season, and the run will improve through June. Fish will be available throughout the summer. Bobber fishing with jigs/bait/beads, casting lures and drift fishing are great techniques to catch a summer steelhead. The Little Nestucca River also has a small hatchery spring Chinook release, and we should see some of those fish coming back this season. Three Rivers has slowed for steelhead after an early push a couple weeks ago, and we will probably need some rain to get fish moving again. Not much sign of spring Chinook yet, but they should be starting to move in. Anglers are reminded that anti-snagging gear restrictions are in effect on Three Rivers from May 1 to July 15. See details on page 18 of the Sport Fishing Regulations. Trout fishing in streams reopened May 22. Good fishing opportunities are available throughout the Nestucca basin.

Access Info

Winter Steelhead should be fair to good later this week as the river drops into fishable condition. Both wild and hatchery will show in catch. Some fish are available in Three Rivers but most are caught in the main river this time of year. No bait is allowed upstream of Moon Creek at Blain and the angling deadline is at Elk Creek. Spring Chinook opened April 1 but few fish are present. Very slow this month
