Lots of boats have been getting out to fish when weather allows. Perch are still in their winter staging areas. On days where boaters can access the lake, perch fishing has been excellent. If you are fishing 50+ feet of water for perch, remember that most of those fish will have barotrauma... please consider not releasing fish caught that deep. Good numbers of brown trout have been caught trolling spoons and body baits, especially in the ship canal and by Gary Light - any warmer water is a magnet for brown trout this time of year. A few lake trout are being caught by the Port of Indiana and the Gong, and trollers are catching a few scattered coho on spoons and body baits.
