The Gallatin River is fishing well and continues to be a reliable option close to Bozeman. Conditions have remained stable, with open water throughout the canyon and into the Gallatin Valley. Access has been good, and while wind has been a factor on some days, the river has fished best from late morning into the afternoon when conditions settle.Nymphing has been the most consistent way to catch fish. Rubberlegs and smaller stonefly-style nymphs have been effective lead flies, followed by patterns like spanish bullet perdigons, rainbow warriors, pheasant tails, and zebra midges. A 9-foot fluorocarbon leader of 3X or 4X has been a solid setup for turning over weight and keeping flies in the zone. Focus on the warmer parts of the days and keeping it simple with a nymph rig.
