Ice fishing can vary from slow to fast, depending on the species you target. The fastest fishing is for yellow perch and small trout (rainbow, splake) in the shallowest water next to the weed line. Ice flies and small jigs tipped with meal worm, wax worm, night crawler, perch meat, and corn work very well. Perch numbers are most dense on the north and south ends of the lake, where the weed line is wider, so focus on those areas if you want to target high catches of perch. There is no limit for yellow perch at Fish Lake and you are encouraged to harvest as. many perch as you catch. You are also allowed to waste perch at Fish Lake so, if you don't want to take them all home, just kill the fish and drop them back in the lake.If you'd like to avoid the perch and catch bigger trout, move out to deeper water (20 to 40 feet). You can catch rainbow trout and splake suspended over deep water as well. To target more splake, try increasing your jig size and tip with perch, chub or sucker meat. Anglers occasionally catch kokanee salmon through the ice as well. While most catches are incidental, you can try targeting salmon by adding a flasher to your line (the same one you troll with in the summer) and fishing suspended over deep water. Shoe-peg corn is commonly recognized as effective for kokanee, while mealworms and waxworms may also work.

Harvest of Kokanee salmon is now closed through Nov 30. Fishing is best in the morning and evening. Rainbow trout can be caught while trolling or bait fishing from boats. Perch fishing is providing fast action. Anchor just outside the weedline and fish with small jigs tipped with nightcrawler. Remember that there is no limit on perch at Fish Lake and you are encouraged to harvest all the perch that you catch. You can also try jigging in 40 to 80 feet for splake, tiger, and larger rainbow trout.Click here to unsubcribe from your fishing reports.
