Water temperatures are sitting at 530F. Rainbow trout catches are measuring between 16 and 20 inches and weighing several pounds. Brown trout averaging 10 and tiger trout averaging 12 that were stocked last year are also being caught by anglers. PowerBait, spinners, nightcrawlers, and wetflies behind a bubble are all good choices for a trout bite. So far this spring, Comins Lake has been stocked with 7,046 rainbow trout averaging 9.8 inches.Water temperatures are still on the cool side, so largemouth bass activity has been slow. There is a limited Bluegill fishery at Comins Lake, and anglers are encouraged to release Bluegill to better establish their population. Most of the northern pike in the lake are post-spawn now and catch rates should pick up for anglers. Northern pike are moving throughout the lake and can be found in the deeper water and along the bullrush in the north lake and spread across the south lake. Anglers that are using flashy lures, RatL traps, and lures that resemble trout, bass, and bluegill should do well. Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Northern Pike. Any pike over 24 inches in length that have transmitters can be removed from the lake. These pike will have an orange floy tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna (~ 7 inches long) coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to the water for research purposes.
