Ice & Winter Fishing - Ice fishing season is active: Early reports indicate ice forming well on Lake Cascade with anglers already ice fishing in spots. Ice thickness in parts of the lake (north/south ends) has reached several inches but mid-lake ice can still be thinner and variable. Exercise caution and check conditions locally before venturing far onto the ice. Species showing on the ice: Anglers have been catching yellow perch, rainbow trout, coho salmon, and smallmouth bass through the ice. Perch in particular have been active shallow (just under the ice surface). Species & Bite Reports Yellow Perch: Fish and Game surveys show strong perch numbers with many 811 fish and plenty of bigger perch in the fishery making perch a reliable target year-round, including ice fishing season. Rainbow Trout & Coho Salmon: Anglers report catches in winter often near the surface just below the ice. Smallmouth Bass: Bass are active around rocky shorelines in open water and sometimes through early ice near structures .Bullhead & Other Species: Local reports suggest bullheads and other common species like northern pikeminnow are abundant and often caught, especially using smelly baits or bottom rigs. Gear & tactics: For perch and trout through the ice, lighter jigs tipped with maggots, worms, or small spoons often work well. Slightly shallower presentations can be key fish have been caught close to the ice surface.
