Bayou Bonfouca

Sunday, Oct 03 2021
Bass are still hugging the grass and will be moving to the inside as the weather gets cooler. Soft plastics thrown to the bank and dragged across the top of the grass are still providing excitement and will continue to do so; the added benefit of cooler weather is this pattern will work any time of day- remember that the air temps may drop overnight but it takes several days of consistently cool air temps to drop water temps. If you're looking for bigger bass, they are relating more to structure and cover than the grass; boathouses, docks, and submerged structure (if you know where to find it) are your best bets. Hard, jerk-baits and square-billed crankbaits have been doing well, in addition to a jig crawled right next to the structure. Shad colored hard baits and crawfish colored jigs or plastic worms have been very productive lately. Bream are not far from finishing their spawning season, but they should continue through most, if not all, of the month. They spawn around the full moon and will be found in numbers during that time. Sexee Shad and crickets are always the top producers. Be advised that catfish like to eat the aforementioned baits so make sure your gear is ready and your drag is set!Trout should start showing up at the mouth of Bonfouca and the lake. It probably won't happen until the middle of the month- it depends on the weather- so keep an eye open for bait and fisherman.
