SQUIDDING IS HOT! Winter crabbing has reopened through 12/31 - SALMON FISHING CLOSED -
About
A prime saltwater fishing area set between Bremerton and Seattle with easy access, available parking, and miles of shoreline. This marine area is heavily fished throughout the year with a wide variety of saltwater gamefish available year-round and during specific, established seasons.
It is a prime lingcod area and offers other bottom fish as well.
Sea-run cutthroat trout reach good size, and Chinook, coho, pink, and chum salmon all have good seasonal fishing.
Squid, flounder, halibut, and other flatfish also inhabit these waters.
Shellfish such as clams, mussels, oysters, and razor clams are found here as well.
Techniques & Tips
This is saltwater with deep channels where you¿ll find halibut and lingcod. All the species in this area are large, hard-fighting saltwater fish. Your gear should be ready for the challenge. Use braided line in 20 to 30-pound test for most species, but 50-pound for working the bottom with heavy lead weights, large hooks, and ample live bait in pursuit of halibut.Salmon and cutthroat trout hit on large spoons, minnows, Rapalas, and number six or larger spinners.
Squid fishing is best at night, in stormy conditions, or after a prolonged weather system has passed. This forces squid closer to shore in shallow water. For squid, a standard spinning reel with six to 20-pound monofilament line works well. Squid jigs and minnows hooked through the lip are good bait.
