Kokanee fishing has been good and can be caught trolling Mack's kokanee killer's or small hootchies behind a dodgers Crappie fishing has been slow. Electronics have been extremely helpful in locating fish.
About
A long narrow reservoir created by the Alder Dam on the Nisqually River, this lake extends seven miles along a deep channel and has a total surface area of approximately five square miles. There are five islands on the lake and 28 miles of shoreline. The shore and island shores are good locations to anchor and still fish from a boat, or on the outer shoreline to walk along the shore and make long casts.
The water level drops in the winter and rises in the summer due to melting glacial ice. The lake is a unique green color and is home to coastal cutthroat, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, black crappie, white crappie, brown bullhead catfish, and Kokanee salmon.
Techniques & Tips
With such a wide variety of gamefish available, the fishing styles are as wide as the spectrum of fish you can catch.Salmon and native cutthroat trout will hit on a variety of spoons and spinners. Crappie, both black and white both hit on bright red lures or jigs and can be caught on live bait such as worms, crawlers, and waxworms. Perch are caught with similar methods.
The coastline around the islands and the 28 miles of shoreline have areas of heavy bass concentration where rubber worms, jitterbugs, poppers, crankbaits, and buzz baits all work well.
