About
Marine Area 8-2 is located halfway between Seattle and Vancouver on the Washington coast. Port Susan to the north and Port Everett to the south are access points. The water is protected on three sides by land with access to the ocean via the Saratoga Passage that separates the north side of Whidbey Island from the mainland.Chinook and coho salmon are feature game fish with pink salmon available in odd years. Bottom fishing is a year-round sport.
Area 8-2 offers oysters, clams, razor clams, and Dungeness, red rock, and tanner crab fishing. Check the regulations for bivalve harvest since they are subject to change often.
Techniques & Tips
During salmon season Area 8-2 has strong fishing pressure, both inland and offshore. Live bait and lures such as #4 or larger Blue Fox spinners, Rapalas, and different types of dappled silver and gold spoons work.Jigs and live bait work for lingcod, Cabezon, and flatfish off the bottom. Baitcasting reel combinations are best for this style of fishing.
If you¿re crabbing, after crawfish, or lobster follow local regulations on style, size, and quantity of traps.
They vary greatly from area to area, even within the boundaries of Area 8-2.
