The Chemung River offers anglers of all ages challenging and exciting opportunities for a wide array of warm water fish species. Most noteworthy are smallmouth bass, super fighters on light tackle, and walleye, first rate table fare capable of reaching 6-7 pounds. Various panfish, including rock bass, bluegill, and yellow perch, are plentiful. Occasionally , Muskie or Tiger Muskie have been caught providing a chance at a trophy-sized fish. While not normally thought of as a target fish common carp are abundant. Best times for the Chemung river are spring, summer or fall. Best time for small mouth is June July and early fall using light to medium tackle using minnow imitating lures, curly tail jigs and live bait such as crayfish, dobson or live minnows. Look to the deep pools or at the base of riffle areas.
