Fishing season in the Lowcountry has begun! Inshore areas are now full of bait and fish are actively eating. We've heard that the seasonal fish have arrived including Flounder, Bluefish, Ladyfish, and Sharks! Make the most of live bait when focusing on redfish as the water has warmed up into the 70's. Menhaden are a great choice whether fished cut or alive and reports show people have been catching some nice redfish by casting chunks of menhaden under docks. Youll need to use enough weight to hold your bait steady so it doesnt slide around on the bottom and get snagged. Topwater trout action is great early in the day and during lowlight conditions. Vary retrieve speeds as you work these lures along grassy banks and over shell rakes. Once the topwater bite starts to fade, suspended twitch bait lures are a good choice to continue the fun. Sharks are back with multiple species like Bonnetheads, Black Tips and Sharpnose are easily accessible from boat and shore. Keep an eye out for fins as sharks cruise along river banks and along drop offs in the harbor and inlets looking for their next meal. Blue crab, live shrimp and cut bait all work well on these predators on bigger hooks and heavy gear.
