One of the seven reservoirs on the North Platte River located between Casper and Rawlins, Wyoming, Alcova is geared towards the sport angler. There are eight boat ramps, and 10 docks, with fuel, supplies, and service at the main facility.The reservoir is heavily used year-round. The summer features shore fishing, trolling, and still fishing from boats. The 2,470-acre lake is one of the best walleye lakes in America. Largemouth bass, crappie. Ling, catfish, and the only Wyoming location containing redfish are all taken from the lake.A high-altitude lake at 5,500 feet elevation it is subject to high, unpredictable winds throughout the year.Ice fishing is available from December to early March most years.Techniques & Tips
This is a premier walleye fishery where anglers can catch limits of walleye in a variety of ways. Trolling is a good method with mid-level Rapala lures set at 12 to 20 feet depth. Jigging for walleye and perch with lead head jigs on number two or four hooks with rubber minnows works from shore or still fishing from a boat.Trout hit on a variety of spinners, and bright spoons on sunny days, and on minnows, nightcrawlers, and waxworms through the ice.Redfish can be caught on worm harnesses from shore or a boat. Crappie will hit on waxworms off the bottom, nightcrawlers, or any red-colored lure in bright conditions.Ling success is highest through the ice with minnows and arranged tip-ups.
